Every year, the traditional Sea Blessing takes place in Blankenberge, an ancient ceremony that once marked the official start of the bathing season. No resident of this old fishing village would venture into the sea before the blessing was given. Today, this unique tradition remains vibrant and attracts visitors from both near and far.

What can you expect at the Sea Blessing in Blankenberge?

  • Solemn Open-Air Mass: The Eucharist takes place on the beach near the lighthouse and pier. The priest blesses the sea and prays for the protection of fishermen, sailors, and beachgoers.
